Hm got to disagree with you there. I am a KTM fan and we work with them, but the 690 is the most unreliable dirt bike out there. Fuel pumps, rocker arm bearings, electrics, injectors, you name it, it suffers from it. Yes there are 690's out there that have never had an issue, not saying there aren't, but overall, its an unreliable machine.

The 690 is marginally better on the hwy being more road oriented than the 500 but the 500 isn't bad. I haven't taken any road trips with the 500 but did need to run about 300 km of hwy once and it wasn't a big issue even geared to 14/50. The 500 is much easier to work on and the maintenance and servicing is much easier.
